To be eligible for the scheme employers must self-assess with Revenue in order to register. Eligible employers must maintain a tax clearance certificate for the duration of the scheme. If employers don’t have a tax clearance certificate then they can apply for one. The disruption to the business has been a direct result of COVID-19 and there is expected to be a 30% reduction in turnover or orders between 1st July and 31st December 2020 during the period as a whole. The reduction must be relative to the same period in 2019. Further details can be found in our EWSS leaflet below.
The EWSS has two elements:
- It provides a flat rate payment to qualifying employers based on the number of eligible and paid employees through payroll;
- It provides a reduced Employer PRSI rate of 0.5% on wages paid through the subsidy scheme
The EWSS will be paid directly to the employer’s bank account once a month in arrears.
All statutory terms and conditions of employment remain and the employer is responsible for abiding by them regardless of the Employment Wage Subsidy Scheme.
